For 12 weeks I have worked with Intoart at The Kiln Rooms teaching an introduction to ceramics course.

It’s been sooooo lovely.

Intoart are an art and design studio in South London working inclusively with people with learning disabilities. The Kiln Rooms are based in the same building and collaborated with Intoart - generously offering up there space for the artists to come and get their hands dirty.

We started by learning the basics. Wedging, pinching, coiling and slab-building. We even tried throwing! - I am not a confident thrower (my skills lie in hand-building) so to say this was overwhelming was an understatement. But luckily all the artists wanted to pursue hand techniques… I may have put them off..

We played a lot with surface design, form and function.

By the end of the twelve weeks all six artists have come out with a final piece/ mini collection of work, which is a huge feat as for a lot of them it is their first time working with clay. And my god are the pieces beautiful. I am completely in awe.

I offer bespoke workshop services so if anyone is reading this and is interested in hosting - do let me know!
